Beth's ABC House was a dream come true for our family. Our little Hanna was a very shy, reserved 3 year-old when our daycare provider moved out of town. Hanna never did well in large daycare facilities--she would cry and cry when it came time for me to leave. Sometimes it took 30 minutes to help her transition. Just by chance, I saw a poster advertising Beth's ABC House. I enrolled Hanna and discovered that Beth's "daycare" was unique in every way. Far more than "daycare," Hanna received early instruction equal or superior to any preschool I've known. Hanna gained confidence and built friendships with Beth and Jim as well as with other children that continue to this day--and she is 9 now! I thank God that Beth and Jim were there to provide such loving, consistent care until Hanna finished kindergarten. Hanna just blossomed in their home environment. Years ago, I attended a daycare led by Beth and Jim Hyland. Beth's daycare allowed me to make lifelong friends and discover my own sense of creativity and curiosity as a little girl. Since that time, I've been through many hardships in my life and found I've had the strength to endure through these hard times and learn from them. I believe this foundation was set early on in my life, particularly during my time as a student of Beth. I've kept up with my best friend from preschool, and I still have vivid memories of days spent learning outside or in the classroom, the kitchen and from my schoolmates and teacher. I can still recall the little lessons that graced each activity and enjoyed every minute of my preschool experience. When I moved to Pullman in July of 2004, my daughter was six months old. WSU provided me with a list of providers in Pullman. I was immediately impressed with the welcoming, inviting attitude of the man that answered the phone at Beth’s ABC House. That day I went to their house and was utterly impressed! My daughter has been attending their childcare for 2 ½ years now. There are no words to describe the relief and satisfaction you get when you feel completely safe and comfortable leaving your child to be cared for by someone you know you can trust. Everyone that meets my daughter is shocked by her intelligence and her amazing manners. Beth's ABC House has been a nurturing, stable and save environment for our 4 1/2 year old daughter. Over the past 3 years she has learned to read and write, engaged in weekly creative art and craft projects, learned dozens of songs, poems, gained knowledge about countries, occupations, basic science concepts, experienced regular field trips and library visits, and learned to follow rules, cooperate and be responsible. Beth and Jim structure these activities in a way that still lets the kids be kids - with plenty of time to play and have fun. After the Washington State University Children’s Center told us they didn’t have space for our son Bryan, we searched the area for a quality preschool. We visited several places around town and eventually heard about Beth’s ABC House. We were so impressed with owners/teachers Beth and Jim Hyland and the way they converted their home into a warm and caring environment for children. It is a clean and spacious house in a beautiful neighborhood--designed perfectly to foster learning and meet the physical demands of energetic young kids.
